I delivered wine to this charming restaurant, and was stuck inside while rain came down in sheets outside. I decided to order one of their burgers with sautéed mushrooms. Boy! Today I'm driving all the way from North hills in Raleigh to Clayton, all because I want to share the experience with my partner. I'm easy to please, but hard to impress. And I was impressed. This place feels like something out of a warm television show.

Pro tip: sit in their new taproom where it is quieter! Flip side bought the coffee shop next door and turned it into kind of a bar feel with a bunch of draft beers. Still serves food, same menu. Garlic parmesan fries are the best side!

Sunday afternoon...Panthers on the big screen...awesome! One server/bartender for inside and outside? Not so awesome. Waited several minutes for any service, the beer menu board flips by so quickly it took a few turns to see what was available. Finally get beer but then have to go to the bar to order food. What we ordered: fried portabello strips with wasabi ranch dipping sauce. What we got: fried button mushrooms with water bland ranch dressing. Will we be back? Nah...

Great service ! Nice and cozy! Welcoming atmosphere and even better food!

It's a mixed bag. Depending on what you order and when you go, the food can be very good or just ok. The main bar gets a bit rowdy even a little trashy (depending on the nights clientele). However, some of the local musicians are very talented and a joy to listen to. Of course they only play in the main bar :( I've never had a bad experience in the taproom. From my experiences, the taproom provides a more low key, higher brow atmosphere, some really good micro brews and knowledgeable staff. They once even had on tap a specialty small batch Bourbon Barrel Aged Wee- Heavy made by Deep River, which was so hard to find (because it's friggin delicious; ) even Deep River was out of at the time. If you find me at flip side, I'll most likely be sitting outside having a bite or having a fantastic time in the taproom, meeting new and interesting people and learning about new local brews.
